Im Rahmen der Triennale III Kärnten 2023 schock.šok.shock wird die Künstlerin Frauke Danzer ihre Installation SOUL BOATS – In the Deep of the Mediterranean eröffnen. Die Installation ist Teil ihres Werkzyklus QUO VADIS MUNDI und folgt auf die Archen des Wissens – Treasures of Hope. Die Eröffnung ist am 15. September 2023 um 18 Uhr in der Galerie Miklautz, Hintere Gasse 32, Gmünd in Kärnten.

Durch soziale Ungleichheit und den Klimawandel sind Migrationsströme nicht mehr aufzuhalten. Wie viele Tragödien werden sich noch auf ihren Routen ereignen? Die SOUL BOATS werden wie untergegangene Boote aus fragilen Papierhüllen in der Galerie auf Grund laufen. Sie sind geformt aus Drahtgestellen als tragende Konstruktion und umspannt mit leichten, gefetteten Seidenpapieren, die einer dünnen Haut gleichen. Diese Oberfläche nutzt die Künstlerin, um dort hunderte Vornamen einzuschreiben, als Platzhalter für die vielen auf ihrer Flucht im Mittelmeer ertrunkenen Menschen. Als „work in progress“ werden die Einschreibungen während der Ausstellungsphase fortgeführt und verdichten so die Textur mehr und mehr.
Mit den SOUL BOATS schafft die Künstlerin ein eindrückliches Statement zu der unmenschlichen Einwanderungspolitik Europas.

As part of the Triennale III Carinthia 2023 schock.šok.shock, artist Frauke Danzer will open her installation SOUL BOATS – In the Deep/Depths of the Mediterranean. The artwork is part of her work cycle QUO VADIS MUNDI and follows the installation Archen des Wissens – Treasures of Hope. The opening is on September 15, 2023 at 6pm at Galerie Miklautz, Gmünd in Carinthia.

Social inequality and climate change have made migration flows impossible to stop. How many more tragedies will occur on their routes? The SOUL BOATS will run aground in the gallery like sunken boats made of fragile paper shells. They are formed by wire frames as supporting structure and wrapped with light, greased silk papers that remind of transparent skin. The artist uses this surface to inscribe hundreds of first names there, as placeholders for the many people who drowned during their flight in the Mediterranean. Being a „work in progress,“ the inscriptions are to be continued as long as the exhibition lasts and so their text condenses the luminous texture more and more.
With the SOUL BOATS the artist gives an impressive statement against Europe’s inhuman immigration policy.
